GreenPLUS identifies the characteristics of the average home using U.S. Census data. The average home is considered to be the baseline and is rated zero. Characteristics of the home that contribute to environmental stewardship and disaster-preparedness earn points. Characteristics include: building products, building design, and products used in the home and yard. As you make improvements to your home, your home’s HSW rating may be updated. You may submit improvements (by revising your answers in the questionnaire) as often as you like.

Any score that is greater than zero (baseline) is considered to be a good score and qualifies for listing in the GreenPLUS Registry. Users are encouraged to register any positive score and to provide updates (revise answers to the questionnaire) reflecting improvements made to the home as often as necessary.
